RIP-OFF JACKET
2024

Garment
The Rip-Off Jacket is my reinterpretation of the Napoleonic military jacket, reconstructed from a slightly modern military piece and transformed through a series of tailored interventions.

I resized and tailored the original jacket to fit the model's frame, then replaced the traditional gold ornaments of the Napoleon silhouette with rugged, minimal straps and closures, patchworked from the jacket itself. The transformation turns the maximalism of historical military dress into something raw and utilitarian.

Post-tailoring, the jacket was fitted with additional hardware and detailing:

  • Black denim-lined bondage straps, horizontally patchworked with vertical pull tabs, stitched with an X-motif for structure.

  • Added sleeve zippers with hatched zip covers and overlocked zigzag stitched edges.

  • Asymmetrical, non-functional wrist ends featuring exposed overlock zigzag stitching along the top ridge.

  • Faux, oversized, two-tone sweatshirt sleeves extending from the original cuffs, constructed from scratch in cotton-blend jersey to create a built-in layering effect.

The extra sleeves allowed me to control the layering and silhouette without relying on actual underlayers — designing the final styling into the piece itself.
